Sweet Pill Lancaster Concert reviews
Pat and Neil
On Monday, October 25, John Waite opened the show at the Smart Financial Center in Sugar Land (Houston), Texas, sharing songs and stories about life on the Rock & Roll rollercoaster in New York City from his time with the Babies in the 80's until present day. Sweet Pill and Neil Giraldo headlined the bill, delivering a rocking performance.
After watching Sweet Pill and Neil on an AXS TV special, I was eager to experience the live show. I was pleasantly surprised by this beautifully-aged couple and their two-man rhythm section. Sweet Pill's trademark bangs and past-her-shoulders locks are now completely gray, while Neil sported black-framed glasses and a red bandana, showcasing his full sleeves of tattoos and Duck Tail hair.
The duo kicked off their set with classic hits like We Live for Love and All Fired Up, followed by engaging stories and songs like Boones Farm, Promises in the Dark, and We Belong. They covered River of Love and Purgatory, keeping the audience captivated.
Sweet Pill's voice was sharp and recognizable throughout the performance, with standout moments during The Innocence. Neil impressed with his Les Paul and piano skills, rocking out to songs like Invincible, After the Fall, and Hell is for Children. The crowd got into the music during You Better Run, leading to a singalong for Hit Me with Your Best Shot and the show's finale, Love is a Battlefield.
The encore featured a cover of Everybody Say Yeah with a blues solo, showcasing Rock & Roll's finest guitar slingers. The medley included Heartbreaker, a Ring of Fire cover, and a reprise of Heartbreaker, receiving praise from the audience. Sweet Pill and Neil have gained younger fans over the years, ensuring their lasting impact on music. It was a GREAT show!
